Updated S462 list

April 1, 2011 at 10:11:11 AM UTC

Pah the perfect competition for me but my new cascade is damaged. maybe i give my ss a try.

April 1, 2011 at 11:19:11 AM UTC

Wow... So many impressive results that will come out of this, congrats.... If ORB was up with 01SE scores, you'd see that top5 would look very different.... Even I, with sucky results (which you have reminded me about 700 times in March), would have made top3 on s479 list... (also with x1900XTX)

Got the approval link still;

49634 T2600 @ 3421mhz X1900XTX water.. XP, not win2k

April 2, 2011 at 12:32:55 AM UTC

Nice competition! Can see the socket 478 record going with some 945chipset socket 478 mobos having pci-e.

Tempted to rig up one of the socket 370 board I have on my wall and find the best agp card I have lying about to see what I get :)

Would dual socket 370 be legal?

April 2, 2011 at 2:42:45 AM UTC

Hey.. where is socket 754 ? I only have this one :D

April 2, 2011 at 2:46:41 AM UTC

Massman, s479 is Pentium M/ Celeron M 3xx only.

T2600 and other Yonah cores are Socket M. The later Merom cores are Socket P. So wipe out the Core/Core2 out of the rankings. Or clear this out. Cause when people say socket 940 they don't mean AM2, right?

So 479 is not Pentium M/P.

Oh, and besides, the Socket M and Socket P are s478 :P

April 2, 2011 at 9:57:31 AM UTC

Socket M?

Socket M?

Socket M.

April 2, 2011 at 11:32:33 AM UTC

Ok, moved Yonah and Merom CPUs.

Gonna recalc de 479 record list :)

April 3, 2011 at 1:42:20 AM UTC

Very nice competition but why no socket 754???

April 3, 2011 at 8:08:52 AM UTC

No special reason. 5 stages is already quite a lot.

April 3, 2011 at 3:47:41 PM UTC

OK. Thank you Massman. My NF4-X will have to wait. :) It would be my best chance but lets try the other sockets.

April 4, 2011 at 5:12:26 PM UTC

they make a socket s478 to s775 adapter, is that allowed?

April 4, 2011 at 9:50:19 PM UTC

they make a socket s478 to s775 adapter, is that allowed?

Of course it is. You're using a 478 CPU, right? ;)

April 5, 2011 at 6:53:33 AM UTC

HW limitation is on CPU side, meaning you can use all the adapters you want. :)

April 7, 2011 at 8:48:22 PM UTC

OK. Thank you Massman. My NF4-X will have to wait. :) It would be my best chance but lets try the other sockets.

Awww.... That's too bad guys, maybe we'll have something with 754 later...

April 7, 2011 at 9:39:05 PM UTC

That would be great! I can´t wait for it ... Bones ;)

April 8, 2011 at 6:43:21 AM UTC

Any particular challenges on S754 that you'd be interested in?

April 8, 2011 at 10:59:07 AM UTC

One idea for a challenge would be that since socket 754 (and 478/479) are from the time there was the change from AGP to PCI-e and you can find boards for both types, why not do a couple of 3D benchmarks allowing 754 (and/or 478/479) with video cards up to the point you can find both AGP and PCI-e (nvidea up to geforce 7 series and ati up to series HD3000 or HD4000, I believe). There are socket 775, 939 and even AM2 and may be others with AGP and PCI-e boards also but that might miss the point. It may be too complicated but well it is an idea... :)

April 8, 2011 at 8:26:41 PM UTC

I agree with the above - Cards based on both GPU types can be ran on Socket 754 along with standard PCI cards too.

I'd also like to see something else besides GPU benching done for variety, maybe 1024M WPrime runs too?

We're currently running some PI benchies in a contest or two and this would be something different but not ruling either of those out. Since many AGP cards don't like or even in a few cases run some of the newer 3D benchies, I'd suggest something compatable for all.

April 9, 2011 at 12:47:12 AM UTC

Massman, that would be great. A four part S754 challlenge.

Two video card challenges and two long processor benchmark challenges.

1) PCMark 05

2) 3DMark 01

3) Super Pi 32m

4) WPrime 1024m

The two long processor benchmarks will be a worthy challenge for all of us. They involve more fine tuning and benchmark skills that the short ones, IMO.

Let's do it for May 2011. April is already has a good Challenge.

==================================================

Edit: Following up on Bones, idea, How about a six part challenge?

1) PCMark 05 - open class for any video card

2) PCMark 05 - limited to AGP and plain PCI video cards only

3) 3DMark 01 - open class for any video card

4) 3DMark 01 - limited to AGP and plain PCI video cards only

5) Super Pi 32m

6) WPrime 1024m

Don't forget NF4 chipped 754 boards have PCI-E slots for cards.

April 10, 2011 at 12:42:55 AM UTC

That's the reason for suggesting two different classes for the PCMark 05 and 3DMark 01 benches.

The "any video card permitted" class would allow the submission of scores earned with PCI-e cards...

While the "limited to AGP and plain PCI video cards" class would not include PCI-e cards.

That way everyone would have a chance to compete on a more level playing field - unless I've missed something there...?

That seems pretty well thought out.

Vin

April 10, 2011 at 12:52:53 AM UTC

Isnt PCMark more about storage anyway? No need to separate GPUs?

I'm thinking the following is a good set of benchmarks:

01/PCI

01/AGP

01/PCIE

PCMark05/ANY

superpi 32m

wprime 1024m

...although I'm not sure if it's a good idea to have that many long benchmarks (3). Maybe wprime 32m instead?

April 10, 2011 at 6:39:29 AM UTC

I see the point you're making here.

As for longer bench runs, again we have two comps already running the 32M Super PI bench and the 1024M WPrime is a suggestion for a longer run.

Here's a thought - A real challenge for this socket would be MaxxMem since 754 doesn't support dual channel RAM.

If you can get a good score there, you've really done something.

C2Q Q9000 belongs to ? s478 or s479 ? Or I am fucked ?

C2Q Q9000 belongs to ? s478 or s479 ? Or I am fucked ?

Last one.

April 11, 2011 at 2:33:05 PM UTC

Socket P?

April 11, 2011 at 2:55:25 PM UTC

huhu then I am fucked.

I really need to find a s478 board that can resist me...

Score s478 board : 7 Dead - 1 Alive (But it's a DELL board -.-)

April 11, 2011 at 3:25:16 PM UTC

Heh, "but it's a dell".

Working Dell is worth as much as a dead board :D.

April 11, 2011 at 3:59:10 PM UTC

lol....

I need to find and fix why series of hardware die asap

Boards who died my hands :

s478 => 7

socket 7 => 1

LGA775 => 1 (ir's normal it was an Acer board :D)

CPUs who died in my hands :

s462 (aka Socket A) => 13

s478 => 1

s370 => 1

s462 CPUs and s478 Boards have a problem with my face

April 11, 2011 at 4:10:06 PM UTC

wtf? seems like you are a "killer". :D

April 11, 2011 at 5:09:52 PM UTC

Not the same cpu, but the same psu :D

I don't remember, but one died cause of the BIOS, one the power design burst, one has the clockgen that died, one is because she killed 3 cpus so I decided that this one is dead :D .....

But all other 71 Motherboards I have are alive :D

April 15, 2011 at 2:57:08 PM UTC

I have been looking at the 462 best scores and the 1st one, I believe is for an Athlon 64 3200+ not a 462 socket. In the description there is a mention to Athlon 64. Also the result might seem a little too high for a 462/ATI9800 combination. Actually correcting the processor will not change any points, it is just to be sure what is the current 462 record for 3d01.

April 15, 2011 at 3:49:18 PM UTC

I killed my best s.A chip in the last competition. The mount was too hard and it ended with a cracked core. It's easy to kill such a naked chip if you're not careful enough.

April 15, 2011 at 7:44:43 PM UTC

I'm wondering if I should try 478 this weekend... no idea how to OC this platform, though.:P Ln2 should help. Then I can try some more 939 action later, 57k shouldn't be too hard really.

April 15, 2011 at 8:05:14 PM UTC

I'll try to do some catch up :)
