Stage 6 topic :D

December 7, 2011 at 12:00:42 AM UTC

RAM caching allowed for PCM7?

December 10, 2011 at 2:07:58 PM UTC

Why not?

December 10, 2011 at 3:40:09 PM UTC

ram drive ? :D

December 11, 2011 at 12:03:22 PM UTC

I would assume it is like pcmv, must boot from the drive that the HDD tests run against?

December 11, 2011 at 12:22:18 PM UTC

USA residents not allowed Steve sorry... insert coin and try again...

December 11, 2011 at 5:59:33 PM UTC

ha ha, nice try! I have some ideas but only that, I have never run this bench before - I do plan on trying to learning it though! :)

December 11, 2011 at 6:02:34 PM UTC

I am like the idiot savant that does only one thing really well and fails at everything else. Lately that one thing has been very nice to me. :) :)

December 11, 2011 at 7:46:09 PM UTC

Just checking! :D

Why not?

December 15, 2011 at 4:02:41 PM UTC

Is it ok if I submit a result without systeminfo? Damn systeminfo won't work on my motherboard, no matter what... just hangs the bench.

December 18, 2011 at 3:03:07 AM UTC

Haha, what a fail stage is this :D.

We're still trying to get the bench to do what we want, but even with an -ehem- professional version, it's not possible to test stages seperatelly?? This stage is for those who can bare sitting there for 16 minutes LOL.

December 18, 2011 at 10:50:25 AM UTC

What about -nosysteminfo? Is a score without systeminfo valid?

December 18, 2011 at 7:35:45 PM UTC

What's the effect of "-nosysteminfo" ?

December 18, 2011 at 7:46:30 PM UTC

i think the the same as on 3dmark....

December 18, 2011 at 7:52:39 PM UTC

can you validate the score on the FM server without it ?

December 18, 2011 at 8:02:17 PM UTC

I plan to try a few pcm7 runs this next week.

correction - week after next :)

December 18, 2011 at 8:14:37 PM UTC

Well, if this benchmark doesn't get the changes it needs, it'll be the last time we used it for a competition. It's so anti-competitive, it's not even funny anymore. You can't even select individual tests to check scaling! :-/

December 18, 2011 at 9:06:06 PM UTC

Would this score be valid: http://3dmark.com/pcm7/228842 ?

(G.Foyle on XtremeAddicts's account)

December 18, 2011 at 9:34:06 PM UTC

^^ sure ... - oh- wait! - you're not on my team for this are you?! absolutely not does it count!! :)

December 19, 2011 at 9:08:55 PM UTC

I see that Crantana has submitted a socket 1155 score ( http://hwbot.org/submission/2232349_crantana_pcmark7_core_i7_2600k_6254_marks ) that isn't being included in the team total, I subbed an 1155 score to start off but have since replaced it with a better s1366 score, maybe a bug that the new 1155 score isn't included?

December 20, 2011 at 9:49:03 PM UTC

We had another quick PCM7 session the other day. This is what we have to put up with during the benching ...

December 20, 2011 at 10:07:41 PM UTC

That's why I'll never have a cat - the damn bastards' favorite area is between you and the monitor:D Always!

December 21, 2011 at 12:01:14 AM UTC

Any reason this score hasn't been posted to Canada's total?

December 21, 2011 at 8:41:48 PM UTC

Any reason this score hasn't been posted to Israel's total?

There's already a better score for the same platform (LGA1155): http://hwbot.org/submission/2233074_jbul7_pcmark7_core_i7_2600k_5790_marks

December 24, 2011 at 12:44:48 AM UTC

This benchmarks is the most "awesome" one I've ever seen. Seriously, hate it.

Too boring and you can't run each test separately.

Oh..and the basic version requires internet connection, which I don't have on all test systems.

December 24, 2011 at 2:19:53 AM UTC

Got no idea how to get that encoding test so high...

December 24, 2011 at 4:32:15 AM UTC

well I saw Aristidis score the other day and I have no idea how he did that.

looks like basic theme, no aero, I will have to try that later.

and really this bench is no fun, soooo boring and mundane.

December 24, 2011 at 5:10:30 AM UTC

maybe edited the cfg? if there is one? lol

December 24, 2011 at 8:50:58 AM UTC

Turns out to be more of a software bench then hardware related... Apparently there are command line options if you have the pro version... Though prolly something has to be altered in windows to get it soaring... not my thing at all... look at FM webbie, there are guys with over 28K encoding :P

December 24, 2011 at 9:07:19 AM UTC

nice competition lol

December 24, 2011 at 1:33:08 PM UTC

Those crafty Greeks! :) Looks like windows 8 might give a nice boost in pcm7 - is it allowed?

December 24, 2011 at 1:35:38 PM UTC

Looks like Windows8 is not even available on technet yet - http://technet.microsoft.com/en-us/bb403698

December 24, 2011 at 1:35:47 PM UTC

Canadians are also on top of it but on win7... can't breach 9K on the decoding part... sigh, hate software benchmarks

December 24, 2011 at 1:58:31 PM UTC

to me it's allowed. At least in the normal ranking, now for country cup I don't know, but I guess yeah.

Massman will confirm that

December 24, 2011 at 2:57:26 PM UTC

^^ Christian, very well, understood, please confirm if you think you need to, thanks.

December 24, 2011 at 3:28:49 PM UTC

Sure, it's available in beta. Go for it! :D

December 24, 2011 at 5:21:52 PM UTC

What about exchanging iexplorer with chrome or firefox ???Is this allowed ???

Anything more ? Changing codecs and similar stuff ???

The main issue is that there are no rules for pcmark7 and everyone can run at what he thinks is "legit" . The question is ... how far can we go ?

December 24, 2011 at 5:26:48 PM UTC

SteveR0 need new Vlite???? me u and some guys knows how PCmark works :D so stick to skill and dont search for something else....

From our side Runs are clear and u know it... i am behind PCmark7 so :D lets bring it on to bench :D

December 24, 2011 at 5:35:14 PM UTC

^^ well good afternoon Tilt! Long time no hear, hope you have been well, yes, just beginning to look at pcm07 :)

December 24, 2011 at 5:39:13 PM UTC

yeah long time for me. Clean fight is on and skill over echanted :D especially on PCmark V+07.

Know that u know how is behind u can play more right?

December 24, 2011 at 5:39:52 PM UTC

The main issue is that there are no rules for pcmark7 and everyone can run at what he thinks is "legit" .

I told massman there were no rules, he ignored me as always :P

December 24, 2011 at 5:42:49 PM UTC

No rules???? R u sure about this??? is this Official??? No rulez on PCmark07????????????

massman????????????

December 24, 2011 at 5:43:57 PM UTC

as long as it validates @ futuremark. lol

December 24, 2011 at 5:48:07 PM UTC

as long as it validates @ futuremark. lol

everything is valid in futuremark in PCmark07 so plz tell if we have at least 1 rule for this stage...

December 24, 2011 at 5:49:33 PM UTC

have a valid screenshot :D

December 24, 2011 at 6:07:35 PM UTC

Only screeenshot and link ... I don't like it , but i'll play with these rules .

December 24, 2011 at 6:12:02 PM UTC

hey I was kidding, only massman can reply to this, ain't gonna make the rules now. He will.

I don't think there will be ''no rules'' ;)

December 24, 2011 at 6:49:38 PM UTC

But , isnt't it a bit late for adding rules ??? We are in the middle of this stage ...

December 24, 2011 at 8:06:24 PM UTC

Yes , we used this preview build .

Merry Christmas !! :)

Any update for the rules ??????

December 25, 2011 at 4:38:15 PM UTC

Everything goes. If you can validate on FM, it's a valid run

December 25, 2011 at 5:04:48 PM UTC

Everything goes. If you can validate on FM, it's a valid run

That means that these rules don't apply to pcmark7 ????????

Update 17th March 2010: Any software or human interaction causing the benchmark application to fail to (properly) render the textures or making the rendered image to differ too much from the original due to other software tweaking

Update 20th July 2010: Any software or human interaction causing the benchmark to use different calculation algorithms as intended by the original software creator. E.g. replacing the codec or browser in PCMark2005.

December 25, 2011 at 8:21:50 PM UTC

Looking at some scores at FM seems top 30 is uberly tweaked with 3rd party software sigh.... I hope you lot can bring them down hard... not going so deep into this ahum benchmark...

Cant even get the freaking thing to work on win8, just freezes the rig...

disable metro view and the freezing goes away.

at least it did for me

December 25, 2011 at 9:22:38 PM UTC

Tried that mate, always freezes at collecting systemInfo, system get's very sluggish... tried running in Win7 mode, doesn't even pop up then. Administrator mode yes or no... crap program does nothing on my X58 setup... Well done Futuremark !! Another amasing product in the pcmark line...

December 25, 2011 at 9:26:35 PM UTC

Erm, it could be the windows version, win 8 is a beta product after all.

December 25, 2011 at 9:33:58 PM UTC

removed user config, tabbed disabling systeminfo, seems to run now... this benchmark is a monstrocity in my book...

December 25, 2011 at 9:46:43 PM UTC

yes it is very mundane

December 26, 2011 at 12:29:23 AM UTC

maybe we should collect some info and post it somewhere - just stuff that makes the benchmark run without issues:D

December 26, 2011 at 10:10:28 AM UTC

The rules definitely need a complete re-write; it's complete chaos. Something to do in 2012 !

Imho, 'back in the day' whoever said ramdisk should not be tolerated in PCMark05 was wrong. Who are 'we' to say that a user should not optimize his configuration by making the most of the DRAM he's using? It only makes sense to use DRAM for lower latency if your HDD is not up for the task. The same goes for the browser: why on earth would you not allow people to change their browser if it's too slow.

The rules for PCMark05 won't change in that respect; for that it's way too late. But for PCMark7, we can do it differently. As long as you don't change the benchmark code, everything should be allowed.

Btw, the software tuning aspect is present in every benchmark: changing desktop resolution for higher 3DM03 in W7, enabling LSC, flashing 3DM01-boost BIOS, copy-waza. The difference with PCMark is just that all those tweaks are in the open, whereas PCMark7 is still largely uncovered. In the olden days, there were a lot of "3Dmark tweaking guides" floating around ... we'll just have to wait for a PCMark7 tweaking guide to appear ;).

December 26, 2011 at 2:20:30 PM UTC

+1

December 26, 2011 at 2:52:52 PM UTC

This stage will be complete fail :P

December 26, 2011 at 5:14:30 PM UTC

Thank you Pieter for the detailed answer . :)

December 27, 2011 at 12:29:57 PM UTC

i submitted a score for country cup in Pcmark benchmark, but my score is not added to the list of belgium??????

http://hwbot.org/submission/2234593_hybridchiller_pcmark7_2x_xeon_x5550_3471_marks

And yes i submitted it to the country cup, maybe some bug ?

December 27, 2011 at 12:32:33 PM UTC

The stage is based on CPU socket. Leeghoofd already has a higher score with LGA1366.

December 27, 2011 at 2:20:20 PM UTC

but i have 8 core.

the score of leeghoofd is 4core.

Pcmarks goes about number of cores.....

December 27, 2011 at 2:24:52 PM UTC

In the normal rankings, yes, but not for the Country Cup :).

December 28, 2011 at 5:46:51 PM UTC

Hello,

I just want to confirm, is it okay to submit scores with SystemInfo disabled? My Win8 setup cannot get to run unless i unchecked the SysInfo.

Thanks,

December 28, 2011 at 6:02:54 PM UTC

^^ Use Systeminfo 4.6.0 - it works fine. If you can't pass sysinfo you need to lower your oc, then raise it after sysinfo runs - if you can :)

December 28, 2011 at 6:05:37 PM UTC
