There we go. A relaxing contest for most teams, I think.
My money is on team Kenny!
Or Perica
ivy bridge allowed, if the cpus will - lets say - officially be released by 29th of april?
Naaah. Let's not allow Ivy .
hehe, otherwise we would be surprised by some 01 results
why not? the guys who buy a ivy in the very first days after release allready have sandy-e @ 5,6 ghz+ ^^
Bug alert: Geforce 8800 Ultra, Geforce 8800M GTX and Geforce 8800M GTS are listed at the competition description as "applicable VGA cards", but not at any stage description.
Thanks for the report. Fixed now.
This gone be awesome, classic line for a contest is always welcome.
Not IB, I agree... disable cores is allowed?
Disabling cores is always allowed
Damn, that was my idea for another XtremeLabs.org Primus Inter Pares Challenge! -)))))
Massman, we've already sold our Sandies (the last one these days -)), so you're closing the door at least for one team.
Let's allow Ivys? (anyway still have to get those somewhere)
I can sell you a 5.2GHz Sandy, ok?
Nice competition and nice time for me to get some 8800 scores.
We only get our retail Ivys at 29th of April... how can you include them in a competition ?
With Sam onboard this is going to be a breeze.... It will be the world against Kenny's expertise !!
I think Massman should disable Ivy from this competition
It's too new? For some teams it's too expensive i think ...
Dammit, I just passed by an 8800 GTS being sold for pocket change earlier today
I can sense it will be fun competion :-) I'm really glad, that I recently bought 4 8800 Ultra cards ^^ They will be of use now.
I also vote for disabling Ivy.
3D is too much about CPU .. top scores will go down way too soon
when Ivy comes out you'll see for yourself .. you'll have to rebench them all over again
Well, but to be honest it's Futuremark fault that their tests are too much CPU dependant
bench is shit
or
bench is awesome to pretest gpu before ivy comes out.
its gonna be good. just 5-10liters for the gpu and then bam.
Like with the Abit compo, I wish participants didn't have to be part of a team, but there aren't many people in my boat
Only just noticed this compo. Sam prodded me. Cynical Kenny wonders if this explains some of the PMs i've had over the last couple days.....
I think I know which cards will win.....and with what mods.................
I'm out, I don't have any CPUs.
edit: Do HWB hope to have the 3DMark06 submission problem fixed so competition scores aren't screwed with?
Lol, now you have to think in something more...or the same with different rules.
epower changes everything. the other 8800s that have lackluster vrms could probably clock 1200mhz with the epower.
@k404: I have my own batch of 8800's I plan to jump in with, and didn't know about this comp when I pm'd you.
I was starting work today, but had moisture problems... letting things dry out, and I am hoping the CPU lives at least. The mobo would be easily replaced, if the chip is dead then I am out.
Finally a comp I can feel good about entering I have two 8800 GTX cards here all modded up just waiting for the LN2 containers. w00t!
aha! I need to see your new toys by the way.
2nd dead chip in less that a month? That would not be good.
3rd times the charm they say, I need to kill something else before Ivy Bridge comes out... You know, get it out of my system.
8.23GHz 8120 - dead
5.76 2600K/P67A-GD65 - unknown (letting the mobo dry out, not sure what all is dead yet)
Next chip - doomed
USPS tracking is cr@p but the box made it thru customs, I expect it here any day now. believe me I am looking forward to seeing them too
amd cpus only would make it interesting.
Not sure about that, if your see my 3DMark 2001 score is around 11K points under the next one, the same happen on 3DMark03 and in 3DMark06 the difference is around 3.2K points.
True but I sold sandy and I am playing with phenom xII 560 right now so would be more interesting for me =)
I upload in 3D06 8800GTS +8800 GTX SLI
will an 8800gts320 win this comp?
If a gts 320 wins this compo i let a 320 sit in my normal system for EVAH!!!
hahahaha
Would it be safe if I run 8800 on LN2 without heatsinks on the vrms, but just a fan blowing over them?
haven't run my 8800s without heatsinks on the mosfets...the heatsinks do get warm(when loaded)
My 8800 gt 512 got warm on the vrm sink under LN2, but it only liked the temps at about -60 to -70. You may be able to get away with it, cards are cheap and all. Or you could just hack up an old heatsink and throw some metal on there.
Thanks guys. Just found some spare sinks that fit, so I'm going to play it safe.
It would be my second LN2-cooled vga and I've never played with 8800 before.
I don't expect great results, but still it's a good experience.
Good luck on that
With vmods top 10 on your card should be pretty easy (it was in my experience)... I had a baked/revived card with mods for my 8800 gt 512 submissions. I was going to take part in this comp until the 2600k died.
Maybe I can submit on the last day of the comp with Ivy Bridge?
I'll add it to the competition page as well.
Bah, thought it was just the MOA thread where you said that. Thanks for the heads up.
Never used a heatsink on the vrm's, only a blowing fan on it.
All cards are still alive, apart from a 8800GTX that blew up
good info. what were the voltages that you used? 1.5x volts?
That is a good place to start, if you are a wussy. lol
(thats in the ballpark that I ran mine... stopped scaling much after that)
ovp/ocp kicks in @ 1.6ish volts
Didn't know that. I also don't know if there are mods for that, my card was hardmodded for volts, and I assumed that would knock out ovp/ocp. Dunno. I just make'm card go fast.
