I guess this will be Sempron 140/145 territory. Not sure what'll happen with big VGA configurations ... even Vantage must be CPU limited then

October 2, 2010 at 3:44:41 PM UTC

Massman i want to buy a intel celeron 356 (3.33) what do you say for this cpu? it's ok for this challenge?

October 2, 2010 at 3:48:18 PM UTC

It's okay per competition rules, but I'm not sure if it'll be competitive.

Why is the sempron so special/great/intel beater

October 2, 2010 at 5:28:03 PM UTC

i guess because of DDR3 support :)

October 2, 2010 at 5:31:11 PM UTC

You can have celerons with ddr3. Semprons are just newer better faster :) Check out the single core wprime rankings.

Not sure about the CPC, but the Semprons can be pushed to 5G+ ... as only single core CPUs.

I'm very interested to see how the Vantage thing will pan out. I'm not sure having 4 GPUs will even help; if the CPU bottleneck is too big, it's possible that 2 GPUs would be enough.

October 2, 2010 at 5:39:52 PM UTC

I can have also my celeron @ 5Ghz but not as good WPRime score as the sempron sigh. just bought a sempron, now I need motherboard and LN2, will see with my team

Thanks Massman. Was having trouble making my 3DmV result public last night anyway. :(

October 3, 2010 at 1:41:29 PM UTC

Any ideas about multi-gpu configurations for the 3rd stage?

Arf too late I have already bought PCMark vantage

EDIT : 3DMark Vantage*

Arf too late I have already bought PCMark vantage Advance

Good job the comp is for pcmark 05 then lol

I think the orb link should stay... had enough of cheating for 1 day.

Wanted to say 3DMark not PCMark.

Anyway I have also bought PCMark Vantage, the free version is a fake, only one use and no score :D

am I missing something or can we just enable one core on any chip and it counts??

October 3, 2010 at 6:24:18 PM UTC

No, only native single cores ;)

I might try the 3870X2 with the P4 for kicks. :P

Never say never(ever here) I have runed some vantage x1 to have WR (not for the fastest of course, for the slowest). And I am sure that massman also did some, he is better than me on underclocking.

What can I reach ? ( xxx Mo/s ) on XP stratup

xp startup will of course exceed the 220mb/s limit. you'll have to bring it down. ;)

which cpu are you planning to use on the commando?

October 4, 2010 at 9:24:09 PM UTC

using old scores

whats the point in the compo?

to find best team's scores & to make new ones if needed -)

IMHO it makes life a little bit easier when competing for fun in multi-stage tasks.

p.s. actually don't know the exact reason for this case.

xp startup will of course exceed the 220mb/s limit. you'll have to bring it down. ;)

which cpu are you planning to use on the commando?

What is the problem to exceed 220 mo/s ? the objective is to have the better score isn't it ?

My P4 630 with HT @ 4.6 Ghz on air

EDIT1 : Just read the rules OMG, after hardware limited cards, there is benchmark scores limitations LOL. Strange I have seen submissions with a lot more than 220 mo/s (like 275 mo/s and sometimes more).

EDIT2 :

Okay - I am done with being secretive and want to play with all my cards on the table. So, I have made a video and after you have seen it, you will be able to be as good as me. That is, of course, if you are talented enough for SuperPI32, because after all this benchmark is not about hardware, but it's about the human pushing the buttons!

I am going to do massman's tweak :

copy big file

recopy big file

another big file

start PCMark05

then the score is : 8mb/s like my very old IBM IDE 4 Go HDD

EDIT3 : ADVERTISING : ( work for Thor941 again ;) ) I am going to check(and report as i am not a moderator) a lot of PCMark05 results. Be careful. The hunting is open

EDIT4 : Hunting closed for today, seems that submissions I have seen with more than 220 mo/s has already been removed. Good to see that cleaning was done before my hunting :D

I can never get pc mark to give me a final score. the cpu tests never finish. I have the encoder installed and the pcmark patch. What is happening? this is the free version. I run into this every time I run it regardless of system im benching. is there a trick to this? No wonder I have no pc mark benches listed on the orb. I never got it to work.

October 7, 2010 at 3:13:57 AM UTC

Install latest patch and Futuremark SystemInfo Hotfix. Used Windows Vista or 7 more easily. 1st try to run with default hardware setting ;).

October 7, 2010 at 2:29:52 PM UTC

you ran it as administrator ? (ignore if not in vista or win7)

Can you show us the details window that we can see which test failed.

October 7, 2010 at 9:52:33 PM UTC

I have a question.

I'm guessing it may not be allowed but I'll ask it anyway.

I have a dual CPU Socket A board and of course a pair of CPU's for it, both being native single core chips. Since there would be no unlocking involved or use of a chip with more than a single core, could this be considered legal?

I know even this may not do so well but still, it would be fun to see how it stacks up anyway. Just one of those "For the hell of it" attempts if allowed.

October 9, 2010 at 8:10:34 AM UTC

Not allowed. The idea is to have a single core system and OC the crap out of it. I'll add it to the benchmark limitations.

Yesterday night I tested the GTX480 with a 3800+ Venice CPU. Managed to outperform a (much more recent) Celeron 430 in Vantage by 20% :D

October 9, 2010 at 9:30:09 AM UTC

Not allowed.

Thanks for the reply.

Since this seemed to fit the rules at the time, wanted to be sure before I did anything.

The idea is to have a single core system and OC the crap out of it..

Believe I can manage that one well enough.

As Oliver says: "keep pushing it!" :D

nice, but this run is not valid, your xp startup is over 220mb/s.

you must be under 220, so 219.999 is the max.

Thx, I was still using CrystalDiskMark to reduce the test @ 220MB/s, but it's rare to have 220Mb/s, very often 230Mb/s.

Anyway I am going to have a ''rules ok'' result ASAP

October 9, 2010 at 9:46:21 PM UTC

That run is still suspect Christian Ney. Lower sub-scores all around than Evocarlos and with a lesser graphics card? Your HDD General usage time is obscured as are your encoding times. Not saying it's a cheat just saying it looks pretty off to me. It's pretty easy to tweak the 1st multi-thread test using Powertoy you know.

i will quote my slef from a post on bt

yeah had tryed a encoder program like power toy about 6months ago and a diffrent encoder but the main thing is hwbot rules apply anything that alters the benchmark defaults or the way it runs is invalid so i just run the stock pcm05 no software mods..

pro also did the program for the encoder it was a pic of a guy in a mankinie

heres what it does to my dally rig

before

CmdCapture2010-07-07165714.png

run the app

CmdCapture2010-07-07165800.png

after

CmdCapture2010-07-07170000.png

its very easy to spot and if you see a ss with the vid encoding score coverd by cpu-z or gpu-z you never know they might be using..

the vid encoding shold be about 75% less than the audio encoding

e.g if audio was 4000 the vid encoding shold be around the 1000 -1200 mark

October 9, 2010 at 10:55:14 PM UTC

Exactly. I can put up 13000+ too with Powertoy. I run legit though. Nice run in the challenge BTW Evo

It's my freak of a 7900Gs that kills you guys in 478 and 462. Shhh! Don't tell anyone.

October 9, 2010 at 10:57:06 PM UTC

Thank you Evocarlos, that pretty much validates what my team mate is saying. :)

Asus P4C800-E is nice, one of the best.

Only the resolution and quality altering in powertoy is forbidden, am I right? Stuff like priority is OK?

October 9, 2010 at 11:23:21 PM UTC

On topic though Christian Ney's run needs be transparent and it's not. If he can reproduce the score AND show the correct sub-scores then fine and well done. If not then it should come down.

That looks right for a Celeron D @ those clocks. There's a big gap between 10,000 and 13,000 boss. So what did you do to get that huge score you submitted that you didn't want to show/us to see?

Same system @ the same clocks and a 3000 point gap? Come on man please post the legit score and keep this competition clean.

not same clock, and celeron is without HT and P4 is with HT.

It wasn't plan to hide the score, I was tired after 63 runs, as the system was unstable I quickly opened cpu-z and gpuz to take a screenshot.

Now, I have seen that I have less sub-scores than evocarlos, so there is something weird here. So I rerun PCMark05 but with 300 mhz FSB, and the score is around 12000 WoW, I thing one of the multithreading test was bugged for my 13000s submissions, as often the audio compressions test was failing, maybe this time he bugged so it gave me higher score.( or an other end test )

=> I am going to remove 13000s score right now.

You all were right, thank you.

Regards ( and sorry for that, I was thinking that when a test was going wrong, it just failed, not bugged )

What is powertoy ?

And how to use a program as PCMark is going to abort tests if you leave his window ?

For me it seems impossible to cheat with PCMark, do you have a proof or a video ?

WoW thank you, I didn't know. I am speechless.

That's why everybody was thinking my submission was bad

Seeing this run, I wonder if the Pentium 600 series (HT, cedar mill) could play a role in the Vantage ranking at 7G+ ... :)

Good to see which is the best 3D platform for old-skool systems:

yeah, athlon 64 ftw. :D

October 10, 2010 at 1:13:00 PM UTC

Damn I havn't got any athlon 64

October 10, 2010 at 1:18:10 PM UTC

No worries - A64 is just decent if you compare clock-per-clock GPU score performance. The most important part of the Vantage score with this type of CPU is the CPU score and A64 doesn't go high enough.

As I am on air, xD, I have a good PCMark05 and a good 3DMrak Vantage(:D). This OC Challenge is finished for me now. Cannot have better scores. And my team don't care about OC Challenges so.....(shame on them :D)

EDIT : Ho, I forget to said also my Weakest Entry Ever for Wprime32M

Don't worry. The sempron scales ;)

________

EFFECTS OF NEXIUM

October 10, 2010 at 5:44:08 PM UTC

Sempron won't take PCMark05. A P4 HT Cedarmill on LN2 will as the Sempron will fall behind in the multithreaded tests. Probably Vantage as well.

I can almost guarantee I'll break 14000 with a P4 Cedarmill before the contest is over.;) I predict 15000 will be broken by someone else.

October 10, 2010 at 5:46:22 PM UTC

Sempron should take the P4 in the memory benchmarks, though.

Maybe boss but I just don't think the Sempy has the juice. Someone will crank a Cedarmill up to 8Ghz on LN2 with a 5870, A-card, and some DDr3 @ tight ass timings and take the top spot. Like I said I will break 14000+ by the time this over maybe 15000.

LOL! I won't hit 8Ghz unless I am EXTREMELY lucky. I'll probably hit 7 give or take a few but who knows. I'll say one thing though I won't take the top spot. Too many big guns w too much juice waiting in the wings. For one I can't afford an A-card or a bunch of SSD's. Best I can squeeze out of my i-ram is 185Mb/s which ain't bad but not top tier material.

Look him,

http://hwbot.org/community/submission/1063397_remiko_pcmark_2005_sempron_145_11933_marks

only one OCZ Vertex 2 ( he has got 200 MB/s, I have got only Vertex 1 ( indilix barefoot ), Vertex 2 is with Sandforce. And the Vertex 2 40GB is cheap.

October 11, 2010 at 7:23:58 AM UTC

RemiKo is using a Vertex 2 PRO drive - this is not your regular Vertex 2. It's much more expensive and much faster. I tried regular Vertex 2 60 GB - it did around 90 MB/s in XP Startup.

Thank for the news, I was planning to buy the vertex 2, but accordingto the web, perfomance are the same with the pro, seems there is something with firmware.

EDIT : 5 of my ocz vertex are back to the store. Maybe an ocz revodrive 50GB would be good. I am not good with SSDs :D, do you know what it can expect with one revodrive on windows startup ? (imo ~ 275mo/s like two Vertex 2 in RAID )

October 18, 2010 at 6:19:25 PM UTC

I'm very interested to see how the Vantage thing will pan out. I'm not sure having 4 GPUs will even help; if the CPU bottleneck is too big, it's possible that 2 GPUs would be enough.
haha.. great way to clear out benching questions somebody is interested in. Pieter, now I know what is this contest for -))

Anyway from now I'm totally sure that even 5,6+ GHz Sempron is not a pair for TOP VGAs at all. Some slight improvements are possible by picking up the less CPU-depending cards and/or additional overclocking but nobody will be able to get much more than has already been done.

Hey Thats my line!

what was the best date code for cedar mill 356?

October 25, 2010 at 5:54:40 PM UTC

Mr Massman, very nice pcm05 there sir!

October 25, 2010 at 6:01:27 PM UTC

Thanks!

Using just one Acard, but XP startup is going >220MB/s most of the time ... so this is a lucky run. Virus scan is pretty low, though :(

October 25, 2010 at 8:55:43 PM UTC

Hm.

If I run my Virus Scan subtest separatly, I get a result of 193MB/s. When I do a full run, it's ~50MB/s.

Someone an idea?

October 25, 2010 at 10:12:35 PM UTC

Im in the same boat massman. Really really annoying me.

I still get under 100 on its own tho :/

Done a lot of pcmark today, rather tired.

Actually its not.......see my comment in his result if you have any questions.

Sometimes its best to look before leaping.

5 acards stacked, looks like he's "warming up" ( :P massman loves that phrase )......only looks like 2 are on for that run ;)

October 26, 2010 at 6:50:32 AM UTC

Doesn't matter chew. There's a 220mb/s limit period not just for XP start up the only reason it's specified is that it's the most visible. If that's not so then I can run HDD general usage off a "soft" RAM DISK and jump above 13000 pts myself.

If were going to not hold the participants to the ORB guidelines say the word and let's have a free for all. Break out the powertoy and browser of your choice kids and let's get it on.

IE is still faster than them all if thats the case ;)

But yah i'm not playing this round. Don't have the correct hardware.

I dunno ask massman, I think the cap is for Xp startup only mate, and software ram drives are illegal even the mere suggestion of using one is not something I would be doing, hardware ram drives are fine.

I guess you want to contest this result to, and this one and this one......seems hwbot is not banning scores...........bottom line reason is it's done with "real hardware" not in software.

- Cap is for XP startup only

- Usage of software ramdisks is prohibited

- It's quite clear that SteveRo has the hw to pull off those scores

October 26, 2010 at 8:33:11 AM UTC

That why we need a clean database with HDD results, I have open a free one here :

http://hwbot.org/forum/showthread.php?t=11796

But we need more results, and unfortunately I haven't got any I-ram, A-Cards.

Maybe I can test ram disk under differents system to see what we get.(celeron, P4, Core2Duo, DDR2, DDR3)

Motherboard bug alert.

Biostar TA785GE 128M

Basically with a specific bios, umm check Elgappos result, its same bios. ( 07/01/2010 )

Boot stock defaults.

Install biostar T clock utility.

Reboot.

Run fsb up in windows with utility from default 200 to 205 bus apply and congrats you have just killed your sempron 140.

Tested on 2 cpu's so yes its confirmed, any takers to try on other model cpu's be my guest, i'm straight having killed 2 cpu's testing bug.

Will let the bios guy know tomorrow.. Thanks for the heads up.

Had I never oced cpu ever , I might be inclined to.

Was actually prepping to run vantage on a 480 and was lazy so used software in windows to calculate scaling.

Having killed it I swapped in a dud sempron.

Same exact thing.

I'm used to it this week by now, can't wait till sunday is over, bad luck week for me. Stars are not alligned in my favor.

$2000 in hardware deaths, not a happy camper.

Overclocking doesn't kill hardware, people do.

Leeghoofd has blackmailed me into doing another round of PCMark on the Crosshair Extreme. Soo little time ...
