Which group for Hong Kong ?

June 24, 2014 at 11:13:52 AM UTC

Far East

June 24, 2014 at 1:59:23 PM UTC

It says that there will be 10 finalists and two will be out of the LATM region. With only 4 regions, will the other regions have more than two finalists?

June 24, 2014 at 2:07:01 PM UTC

2 for LATAM, 3 for Far East, 3 for EMEA and 2 for NA

June 24, 2014 at 3:07:12 PM UTC

3 spots for EMEA,

with Xtreme addict out of the picture, i see 8pack dancop and a few others, going to be awesome fight!

June 24, 2014 at 3:16:24 PM UTC

Xtreme Addict is seriously in the picture I believe

June 24, 2014 at 3:25:27 PM UTC

Gentlemen... Start your binning :)

Oh oh and

Africa is just as big as latam can't we get segregated out of emea like they were out of the Americas ;)

June 24, 2014 at 3:55:25 PM UTC

Xtreme Addict is seriously in the picture I believe

yes he is already going straight to finals :D. Out of the qualifier picture i mean!

i agree with drweez, africa is massive, so many overclockers that don't have internet to upload scores ;)

June 24, 2014 at 4:13:51 PM UTC

We shall think about it for next year then :D

Plant seed....check

June 24, 2014 at 7:12:15 PM UTC

In all seriousness, I think we would need 40 slots to satisfy all the regions.

Last year we had a nice geographical spread even with one worldwide qualifier but that was lucky.

At least this year we are sure to have a nice mix again.

June 24, 2014 at 8:08:15 PM UTC

Ye im happy!

This will be awesome! :D

A great OC battle is coming

June 24, 2014 at 11:07:45 PM UTC

Going to be an awesome contest!

June 25, 2014 at 2:35:29 AM UTC

In!

June 25, 2014 at 2:40:29 AM UTC

Buying HyperX gear with G.SKILL winnings.

Splave has OC figured out!

June 25, 2014 at 4:17:49 AM UTC

I will watch last days of submitting scores with beer in my hand :D

BTW

Imho EMEA needs more places than other region, too many overclockers here ;)

I Agree marmott, my comment was a little tongue in cheek, it is almost impossible to cater for all the markets around the world ;) Emea (as well as the other areas)have a lot of strong guys. The competition is going to be good. Kingston is doing a really good job with the HOT series of events. Thanks

June 28, 2014 at 11:59:24 AM UTC

Is Australia now considered Far East? Or is 'Far East' meant to refer to the greater Asia/Oceania regions?

June 28, 2014 at 2:26:20 PM UTC

Pretty sure it's the down under region bro

June 28, 2014 at 2:44:49 PM UTC

Pretty sure it's the down under region bro

'Bout time we got our own region. But I only see a Latin America, North America, Europe/Middle Aast/Africa, Far East region listed on the comp page...

June 28, 2014 at 2:57:04 PM UTC

Far East = APAC

June 30, 2014 at 9:31:22 AM UTC

Made this a sticky so we can all discuss the HOT in one thread

June 30, 2014 at 9:45:19 AM UTC

Hey PJ, can you flesh out the comp pages a little better? All the basic stuff like hardware rules, what sub benchmarks run on what dates or for the whole stage etc.

Trying to get my head around it, and using the 2013 HOT as a guide, I just don't want to get anything wrong.

June 30, 2014 at 9:52:46 AM UTC

The competition rules for the stages apart from the LATAM qualifier are not confirmed yet. Expect them to be very similar though.

But that's the reason why the pages are not fleshed out yet :)

June 30, 2014 at 9:55:57 AM UTC

I just read about the need to change away from max memory freq, so fair enough.

June 30, 2014 at 9:57:58 AM UTC

If someone is not sure about something, please ask here. I'm sure we can help.

June 30, 2014 at 10:03:53 AM UTC

Hey guys are there no restrictions on PSU and motherboard this year?

June 30, 2014 at 10:05:14 AM UTC

If someone is not sure about something, please ask here. I'm sure we can help.

Basically anything and everything hardware. Is it just restricted to Kingston ram, or will there be more restrictions?

June 30, 2014 at 10:14:59 AM UTC

Intel Haswell + Kingston/HyperX memory

That's all :)

June 30, 2014 at 11:52:38 AM UTC

Chispet allowed may vary too, so far Z87 only for LATAM and Far East.

We saw that Z97 may be a bit more gifted than Z87 when it comes to memory OC. So we want to avoid any complain about having to use the latest Z97 chipset.

edit: by Z87 and Z97 I mean Intel 8 Series and 9 series chipsets

Here is some potentially useful information for those looking for particular IC-based kits.

December 13, 2014 at 5:04:58 AM UTC

Just so everyone is aware about the situation: TeamAU pulled out of the competition and will be replaced by Coolhandluke41.

December 14, 2014 at 2:20:29 AM UTC

So unless I'm missing a post.

What platform are we benching at final

What benchmarks ?

How's it being scored ?

December 19, 2014 at 3:53:48 AM UTC

Can all Overclockers attending please discuss competition layout ?

would people like a fixed CPU frequency for 32m and XTU this will eliminate the best CPU wins regardless issue and force it to be about memory overclocking ?

Please chime in !

December 19, 2014 at 5:59:10 PM UTC

So far the benchmarks are: max memory frequency single DIMM, XTU @5GHz and Cinebench R11.5.

December 19, 2014 at 10:27:13 PM UTC

Cinerbench is not that related to memory overclocking....

December 20, 2014 at 4:19:01 AM UTC

Please GOD DITCH Cinebench it's all CPU Power !!! Memory means nothing bring back 32m !!!

It's almost like they are using the same hardware or something?

January 8, 2015 at 4:06:31 AM UTC

So are all of the memory scores being removed because no scope?

January 8, 2015 at 5:09:09 AM UTC

they probably should be.

January 8, 2015 at 5:44:23 AM UTC

These were benched live on controlled OS no registery tweaks were performed to skew results my score is legit. Osilliscope no need benched live hwbot judges Christian ney and massman.

January 8, 2015 at 6:40:47 AM UTC

Fester

Not saying your score isn't legit, but there was what 11 guys benching no way that 2 judges can watch everybody. Massman was also the one that made the rule about scopes for X99.

January 8, 2015 at 11:55:15 AM UTC

We'll deal with it, it's valid.

January 8, 2015 at 5:22:55 PM UTC

So are all of the memory scores being removed because no scope?

No, we checked all the scores and the results were done at a live environment.

FYI, this is what was written in the article: "For memory frequency validation records it seems obvious we must rely on additional verification by means of the oscilloscope, or at live events by verifying correct functioning of the motherboards prior to the record attempts"

January 8, 2015 at 5:30:38 PM UTC

So, does it mean only valid DDR4 subs would be from those participating in the handful live events during the year or records by vendors with oscilloscopes?

How would you know some random guy didn't tweakthe registers if he didn't bench live or has no oscilloscope?
