how cool :) i like the stages! good luck everyone!

but please make this clear "Use 2 processor core(s) in total.", what does it mean? only core i3 allowed? or may i use 6700K and disable rest of the cores/threads? thanks!

January 18, 2016 at 10:27:55 AM UTC

Furthermore...if i3...is the 6320 allowed with ht? Or just an i3 without ht?

January 18, 2016 at 4:21:49 PM UTC

Seems like everyone is confused with the rules if it's for Pentium/i3 cpus (Dual Core cpus) or all cpus are allowed, just total amount of enabled cores has to be 2 in total

"Use 2 processor core(s) in total."

From what I understand 6700K or other i5 are allowed if we disable cores?

January 18, 2016 at 4:49:38 PM UTC

I think we talk about genuine dual core, Pentium or i3, no matter if with or without HT. This issue will be cleared soon, before the competition starts.

January 18, 2016 at 6:10:33 PM UTC

I asked lewis this the other day. It's 2 core proc, not 2 core enabled total. :(

Glad I wasn't the only one questioning this!

January 18, 2016 at 6:55:57 PM UTC

Okay... So someone change the rules ^^ and have fun guys :)

January 18, 2016 at 8:04:06 PM UTC

If it were 2c enabled I would. I'm out!

January 19, 2016 at 5:33:16 PM UTC

Pizza or sushi? :P

January 19, 2016 at 6:09:32 PM UTC

both please gunni

January 19, 2016 at 6:36:59 PM UTC

Döner :P

There is no limit for graphics cards or graphics cores used, on cpu this is different, dual core cpu only

Has this ever been allowed in any HWBOT competition? :P

Added to the rules for additional clarification :celebration:

Don't know, never taken part in one.... :P

Thanks for clarification. :)

Only once, HOT qualifiers last year allowed us to use 6700k with HT off to meet the 4 core restriction. Or that could be different I don't know anymore and it's to late to back down :D :D:D

Seems a very strange decision since aquamark scales with at least 2 gpus.

Cheap cpus and ultra expensive gpu-setup...

January 20, 2016 at 9:53:14 AM UTC

Yes, it is an unusual setup, it is different from what we saw before with the new non K oc now possible. Tbh, I like the idea, and I think you will not need golden sample(s) on vgas to get top result

Thanks for the feedback!

After considering this, we all agreed that it would be best to limit to single GPU. The limitation has been added to the competition too.

January 23, 2016 at 11:37:26 AM UTC

Are all ES forbidden for the competition or just Skylake ES? I have some G3258 ES can I use there for the contest?

January 23, 2016 at 11:38:55 AM UTC

never any ES in comp's doubt it is gen specific

January 23, 2016 at 12:01:54 PM UTC

i doubt too but i prefer asking :) because i've a quitte good G3258 ES :)

January 24, 2016 at 9:23:10 PM UTC

for Stage 2-3 are allowed only reference vga or even custom as Strix, Matrix etc.? :)

only ASUS cards right? Nothing EVGA, MSi, GIGABYTE etc? :)

January 24, 2016 at 11:07:35 PM UTC

All Asus models and AMD or NV reference cards, no cards of other boardpartners. This is quite generous rule including reference cards, but I think everyone understands that Asus makes this competition and other brands are not allowed

Edit so to specify this, amd and NV branded cards are OK, all Asus branded cards as well, but no cards from other boardpartners like HIS, EVGA or whatever :D

is this competition only for extreme or anybody can participate in it? i can see that one enthusiast and one novice have already submitted.

January 25, 2016 at 11:36:58 AM UTC

This Extreme showdown is for extreme and elite members only, you can check this at overview at info tab :)

Round three of ROG OC Showdown 2015 Extreme series challenges entrants to reach the upper echelons of HWBOT.org’s Elite and Extreme leagues, reserved for the world’s most prodigious overclockers. Extreme cooling prowess will need to be engaged to secure the top scores in each of the three stages, measured with SuperPi 32M, 3DMark01 and Aquamark3.

Rules for stage 2 and 3:

â–»Use any ASUS, Nvidia (reference) or AMD (reference) graphics card. No limitation in amount of GPUs.

â–»Use 1 videocard core(s) in total.

No idea what it means:

- multiple cards allowed? Strange, especially when Massman touched this few posts above mentioning "single GPU"

- dual-GPU cards allowed but one core disabled? - that might be my paranoia or overinterpretation, feel free to mock me :)

Please clarify. :)

January 25, 2016 at 3:25:00 PM UTC

Single GPU Core, I already tagged this be specified (aka remove the "no limitation in amount of GPUs"), one GPU, one Core, no core disabling allowed as we want to keep it simple

Any reason why my Aquamark3 file will not pars? I have ran the bench several time with different files sill no go. Am I doing something wrong. Thanks for the input

January 26, 2016 at 6:02:07 AM UTC

You have to disable system information

I did read that in the forums. Ill give it a try. Thanks for the help

January 27, 2016 at 7:04:55 PM UTC

Is an EVGA gtx 980 Ti ok for both the 3dmark 2001 and the Aquamrk3 bench - Not sure I understand the rules read ASUS VGA or reference NVidia or AMD - thanks

January 28, 2016 at 12:54:20 PM UTC

No Evga, msi, HIS, Sapphire or whatever boardpartner card except for Asus cards - apart from this you can use Nvidia or amd branded cards, OEMs directly from manufacturer. I already wrote this before, maybe now it becomes more clear, Asus allowed, Nvidia or AMD branded cards allowed (OEM), others not allowed

January 28, 2016 at 2:01:50 PM UTC

I made a first check to give people a hint, lots of results removed (on 3d no asus/reference card used, missing mainboard tabs, missing background etc). I did not enforce the rule of SPD tab needed, will have to talk to Pieter if we make rules more clear on this or skip it, normally it was thought to be mandatory for all subs, but now is only listed at 01. Will keep you updated, so please check this thread regularly :)

January 28, 2016 at 2:26:57 PM UTC

Essentially needs to show ASUS/AMD/Nvidia in GPU-Z vendor tab. Might want to check out BIOSes with different vendor ID if you have a reference PCB or that Maxwell BIOS editor available :)

January 28, 2016 at 2:48:34 PM UTC

OK thank you

I guess ill be setting up my ASUS Strix 980 tonight :)

January 28, 2016 at 5:21:59 PM UTC

Ok, got an important clarification/change for the rules:

Enthusiasts, Rookies and Novice members are allowed to participate at Extreme showdown under these premises

1. They have not participated in stage 1 or 2 of Asus Formula series

2. They are of course limited to ambient cooling solutions

3. As seen at #1, if you participate in extreme series stage 3 you are not eligible to participate in round 3 of upcoming Formula series if this starts

If you have any questions about this, feel free to ask, we got this clarification today, so if you have participated in Formula 1 or 2 you can´t participate at extreme showdown, if you plan to join stage 3 of Formula series, think twice if you enter extreme series, you will not be eligible anymore :)

January 29, 2016 at 5:50:46 AM UTC

Ah my subs got removed because no mainboard tab.

Not to worry I was going to run them again.

And I have to show a SPD tab.

January 30, 2016 at 12:39:30 PM UTC

Rules update

SPD tab not mandatory

We removed the SPD tab requirement, Pieter also made the rules more clear, it is better to keep things simple, reason for this is that AFR are retail now and we have no chance anyway to distiguish between retail purchased memory and samples on most vendors. Rules have been clarified now, if you find anything that is still not clear for you, let me know and feel free to ask.

February 2, 2016 at 3:03:02 PM UTC

It was a nice touch to use i3 in the comp, but the recent retails are impossibly bad. Me and some others have tried to bin a decent one and they are all crap on LN2! Even the good air clockers!

February 9, 2016 at 8:10:50 PM UTC

I took a look at the results, didn´t moderate them though, will do next day - please check aquamark rules, the screenshot has to be obtained with the integrated screenshot tool, which sinmply means you have to have your gpuz and cpuz windows opened when you save the result! - saving the result and then doing another screenshot for validation purposes with an external tool is not valid, I saw at least two results which I will have to block, so please re run am3 if you now see the mistake :)

P.S. did the check now, please note that only amd, nvidia or Asus branded cards are allowed for 3d, and if you miss a score, check the rules please :)

February 17, 2016 at 5:46:11 PM UTC

Last check before commp ends, had to remove or block some results (removed bc of missing mainboard tabs and backgrounds)

P.S. I removed another result now that I had info on it, if you have problems to submit am3, try to bench with sysinfo disabled

February 21, 2016 at 9:46:57 AM UTC

Anyone had "unable to parse datafile" in AM3 with i3? I suspect that running 4 dimms is the case here, I noticed that AM3 wrapper shows "16 GB <OUT OF SPEC> DIMM".

Funny, because with 2 dimms it showed "Unknown Unknown" properly.

I take it that workaround is system info disabled but anyway it would be pity if I had to use backup that's more than 50k worse :(

February 21, 2016 at 12:58:02 PM UTC

Turn off sys info helps with that error. Sorry.

How do the prizes work anyway? Top three elite and top three extreme or only top three overall?

February 21, 2016 at 1:17:28 PM UTC

Thanks, I'll rebench with SS as I ran out of LN2, will be an improvement anyway :)

February 22, 2016 at 12:56:19 PM UTC

I have a question concerning the case of equality like lashu1919 and me, Bullshooter and junior..... What is the rule? who take the highest place?

February 22, 2016 at 3:43:01 PM UTC

Hi Mylth , I want to know it,too

February 26, 2016 at 2:56:01 PM UTC

Final check done, unfortunately I had to remove a few subs due to background missing and block some due to insufficient verification.

At ties, I usually go with first stage result, then second one to determine if there is no explicit tie breaker rule

February 26, 2016 at 3:35:39 PM UTC

Thanks! Can you update the ranking manually? New points don't count for the total.

February 26, 2016 at 3:36:26 PM UTC

Already scheduled for recalculation :)
