So I've had this board for a while now... it's running a 6950x (previously 5960x) with 64GB of DDR4 @ 3200 Mhz and twin EVGA 1080 ti FTW3 graphics cards, along with some HDDs and SSDs.
I managed to get XCPNG working with this build, with GPU Passthrough for both GPUs and a myriad of different operating systems across a range of Linux and Windows versions.
Heads up, the BIOS can be a bit twitchy when trying to go into Advanced Mode sometimes.
The following also helps if you have issues with a RAM module not showing up in BIOS.
Clear the CMOS. Switch off the machine, but leave power connected. Depress the CMOS clear toggle on the back of the mobo for about 10 seconds then release, the machine will boot up with CMOS cleared.
If that doesn't help, re-seat your various hardware, RAM/GPUs/ try CMOS clearing again, if that doesn't do the trick, leave some stuff out. Unnecessary RAM, PCIE hardware, etc. Once you clear CMOS again, and the offending hardware is removed, go through the process of cleaning all of your pcie/ram headers and even use some alcohol and Q-tips to clean the ram/pcie slots (this saved me). Re-seat your various hardware, clear CMOS (especially if you moved RAM around) and try again. If you have a good clean connection for everything, you should be able to enter Advanced Mode in the BIOS no problem.
Beyond that this board has been powering my machine almost daily for years without many issues.
You may not want to use the "latest" version of the BIOS as it may not play well with some hardware and virtualization.
-----
At first impressions, this board isn't much.
The first thing you need to know is that this board only has 1 USB 3.0 slot. It does have several USB ports built-in, and a USB-C port as well.
It does have 3 PCIE 1x lanes you can utilize to add more USB 3 slots that you may want to utilize. My case (Corsair Graphite 760t) comes with a front-side IO like many cases do. Included are 2 USB 3.0 ports, so of course that slot on the Taichi is already taken. I have 3 bay peripherals I would like to install, but lack the necessary slots to pull it off.
The board has great features in the BIOS. Here's a few I love.
Boot Order is Drag & Drop.
RAM model gets detected and XMP profile selection is 1 click from the main screen.
Overclocking for intel K series processors is 2 clicks.
Easy BIOS reset switch in the back.
Sick black and white theme.
Reinforced PCIE slots.
Fan monitoring and configuration is fairly easy.
Some things I don't like.
A single red LED. I selected this board because it's black and white to match the theme of my build. (Many Face God, the cool people will get it). It does turn off after POST, so it's not a hate.
LED readout is also red, but again, it disappears after POST so no worries really.
Only one USB 3.0 slot.
Some peripherals stop responding on reboot. This might be more of a driver issue, but this only happens with these devices on this board. I use the same devices on two other machines with the same exact hardware and software except for the mobo and do not have this problem.
Lacks an on-board start button. You MUST hook up a momentary switch to operate this board.
Because all of those issues are very basic first-world problems, they don't reduce the star count. Nothing critical or damaging happens while using this board.
I have managed to overclock an i5960x to 4.4 Ghz (didn't get a golden chip :( ) and I'm running Corsair Dominator 64gb of DDR4 @ 3200Mhz and a Samsung 960 Pro M2 SSD. I'm very satisfied with this board overall and definitely find it worth the money. All issues can be worked around.
- Reviewed in the United States on May 9, 2017I've dabbled in ASRock boards with builds for my kids and family in general due to cost and seemingly good luck.
For me? it was nothing but ASUS for the last 20 years. My last build was an ALL OUT X99 build with an ASUS Sabertooth.... Nothing but little issues from day one - USB randomly not being recognized, hangs on startup and shutdown nearly every time, tough to overclock my mem and 5930k stable. But I dealt with it for 2 years because i was an "ASUS" guy and figured that bios updates would fix my $300 MB. Fast forward to last week... Creators WIN 10 update , nothing but system hangs and even a need to restore to a previous version... hangs hangs and more hangs. I had had enough!
I sat down and said to myself, " I have used ASRock in my other builds and these boot fast, easy and stable... why am I not useing one?? So I ordered tha X99 Taichi based on costs and usable features I needed. I swapped out my Sabertooth, put the Taichi in.... booted to Bios and set the AUTO OC to 4.6 with my 5930k and DDR4 3000 mem. restarted and BOOM Perfection! The system rebooted to Windows in 12 seconds and has been stable ever since. Creators update...stable. ZERO issues, NONE. Perfect
Simply put this board and ASRock has my business going forward. GReat board... great bios. Stable and easy.
If you are on the fence or even looking around at an X99 board. Stop and simply buy this Taichi. Forget what you feel or know about others, this is the only X99 board you need period.
- Reviewed in the United States on December 15, 2016Update 11/4/18: Sorry but I will have to steer anyone looking at this board for your own sake. Two of the ram slots have now malfunctioned forcing me to run my memory in dual mode instead of quad channel mode. On top of that it has been a few weeks since I placed a request for an RMA and haven't heard a single word from anyone from ASRock. So yeah. Never again will I purchase anything from these guys.
Update 4/11/18: Bios was unstable... Tried it three different times on three different W10 installs on three separate drives... and all three times it corrupted the system. Went back to he previous bios and no problems.
Update 3/15/18: Bios 1.70 released and computer won't boot now. Going to investigate the cause but seems just like a bad bios release... I mean it's been almost a year since the last release and they go out and release this trash. Reducing to two stars.
Update 8/13/17: Taking out another star which now brings the overall to 3 due to the lack of support on this platform. The board hasn't received a single driver or bios update since mid last year. It works but there are well known bugs floating around. Sadly even though its a new release the new upcoming other platforms means that Asrock released this, gave it an update or two and then just forgot it in the basement forever.
It has been two weeks of use now and I must say after paying what I did for it compared to my previous MSI board I am highly impressed. The board has a great aesthetic and underneath all that shine it performs like a champ. No random issues getting the initial boot. No issues getting my 5820k to 4ghz + with minimum adjustments. No issues using the second XMP profile in my Corsair Dominator set which my previous board wouldn't handle at all. So what can I say everything so far that I have tried works great. Waiting for the new Samsung 960 EVO M.2 cards to be available then I will populate both M.2 slots and see how that works.
The only issue I have found so far and it's only a issue because its part of their advertising for this board is the network teeming capability. The nics present here or other underlying issue make this board not capable of such in Windows 10. But other than that not a big deal. Hopefully something they can remedy with a driver update or something of the sort.
Anyways this board is a great option and I highly recommend it if you looking for something that will perform and not cost an arm and a leg.

5.0 out of 5 stars Great motherboard - simple
Great motherboard - simple, no flashy RGB like on the most today's boards...bios/uefi is very impressive, mobo is stable, running Haswell-E overclocked to 4,5 like a rock. Not to mention stunning look (white& black). Good location of pump and fan headers. 5 stars for Asrock.

5.0 out of 5 stars Top ausstattung Top leistung Top aussehen
Guten Tag!
MFG andreas
