What driver are you using?? Might be best to try an older driver like 12.3 or 12.4 and then up the clocks on the 7970. You should be able to break 1.3Ghz on a very low stress benchmark lke this

I was using 12.8s mate - im sure I can up teh clocks but the whole OS doesn't seem stable and still trying to figure out why
